Q: I don’t know my username and/or password for PAR.

A: Click on "Unable to Log In?" on the PAR log-in page. Select either “I know my Username” or “I do not know my Username”. Complete the email address field or details as prompted. An email will be sent to the school email address with log-in details.

Q: I have just tried to login and found my account to be locked – what do I do?

A: You may be trying to login outside the website open dates, check the information at the top of the login page. Alternatively, you can email the NAPLAN team at naplan.nsw@nesa.nsw.edu.au and request your account be unlocked. Your email will need to come from a school email address and identify you as a staff member.

Q: I received an email with my password and the email said that my user name is region code_school code. I know my school code but not my region code. Would you please be able to tell me what this region code is?

A: Each school has a username which is a 3-digit number (region code) followed by an underscore symbol then a 4-digit number (school code) eg 538_1202. School Details

Q: Our school name has changed – can you please change it on PAR?

A: You will need to send an email to naplan.nsw@nesa.nsw.edu.au and request that the school name be updated. Please note that it is important that the school name on PAR is correct, as this is how the name will appear on NAPLAN Student Reports.

Q: Our school address/phone number/email address has changed – how do we change on PAR?

A: If you need to make changes to the school address details call (02) 9367 8382 or send an email to naplan.nsw@nesa.nsw.edu.au. Phone numbers and Email addresses are editable by school staff.

Test Participation

Q: Which students are exempt from sitting NAPLAN?

A: Students with a language background other than English who have been attending school in Australia for less than a year before the test are exempt,
however they should be given the opportunity to participate. Students with significant intellectual disability and/or those with significant co-existing conditions which severely limit their capacity to participate
in the tests may also be exempt.
Students who are exempt from one of the numeracy tests in year 7 or year 9 will be deemed exempt for both numeracy tests.

Q: If a student has left our school, how do I take him off the class list? What do I do with their books?

A: If a student has left the school, you need to:
Go to the Student Test Participation page in PAR.
Find the student's name (enter student surname in search box , click "Search").
Select "Left School" from drop down list under Proposed Status. Do not return the test books for this student.
Either keep them as a school resource or destroy them once the test security period has elapsed (1 June 2020).

Q: I am trying to add a new student, but keep getting a message that the SRN is already in the database.

A: If the message "This SRN is already in the database" pops up, enter 000000000 (9 zeros) in the SRN field. This is an indication that the student has been registered in another school.
The SRN field will be updated during the course of processing NAPLAN test booklets.

Q: We have one student registered to take part in NAPLAN, however he actually repeated and is still in year 2.

A: Students participate in NAPLAN based on the school year group in which they are enrolled, not their age.
Go to the Student Test Participation page in PAR.
Find the student's name (enter student surname in search box, click ‘Search’).
Select ‘Left School’ from drop down list under ‘Proposed Status’.

Q: One of our students is in the wrong year group on PAR.

A: Go to the Student Test Participation page in PAR.
Find the student's name (enter student surname in search box, click "Search").
Select "Left School" from drop down list under Proposed Status.
Select the correct year group, then Add Student in the Edit box.
Complete form with student details, then click on "Save".

Q: What if a student did the LC and Writing at another school and enrolled here on the Wednesday to do the remaining tests?

A: Please send an email to naplan.nsw@nesa.nsw.edu.au.
A NAPLAN team member will contact you and advise how to complete the entries on PAR.

Q: Student’s date of birth is incorrect – how can we change it?

A: Go to the Student Test Participation page in PAR.
Click on the Edit at the left of the Student's name.
Edit the date of birth field as required.
Click to update changes.

Q: Which students can be withdrawn from NAPLAN tests?

A: Any student can be withdrawn from one or more NAPLAN tests by their parent or caregiver.
Withdrawal forms must be signed by the parent/caregiver and filed at school for audit purposes.

Roll Classes

Q: Some of our roll classes have changed – what do I need to do to fix this?

A: Go to the Student Test Participation page in PAR.
Select a roll class from the drop down list in the Sort table.
In the Edit table, click Edit Roll Class.
Next to New Roll Class Name, type the new name.
Click Update roll class name.
If you need to move students into the new roll class, click on the box at the left of each of the student names.
Select the new roll class from the Move to Roll Class drop down list in the Edit table. The roll class information will be updated for the selected students.

Q: I am having trouble printing class rolls – can you help?

A: Detailed instructions are available on the link at the top right of the Print Test Rolls page.

Q: How do I indicate that some students were supervised separately?

A: Go to the Student Test Participation page in PAR.
Click on the Edit link at the left of the Student's name.
At bottom of the page, click on the drop down menu and select Disability Adjustments. Indicate Separate Supervision.

Q: How do we indicate support class students?

A: Go to the Student Test Participation page in PAR.
Click on the Edit link at the left of the Student's name.
At bottom of the page click on the drop down menu and select "Disability Adjustments". Indicate Support Class.

Disability Adjustments

Q: How do I view the disability adjustments that were applied for?

A: To view all Disability Adjustment Applications, click on Disability Adjustments Summary on the left menu. All student applications will be listed here. To access any student’s application information, click on ‘Details’.

Q: How does the school know when applications are successful or unsuccessful?

A: When a decision has been made on an application, an email will be sent to the School Principal and Support Teacher informing them of the outcome.

A: If the outcome is unsuccessful and you require further details, please contact NAPLAN team.

Q: How can I view the status of my disability application?

A: To view, click on Disability Adjustment Summary from the main menu. The status of an application is shown as either, Received, Approved, Declined or On Hold. If you wish to modify the status of an application for any reason please contact NAPLAN team.

Q: Where can I find the criteria for approval of a scribe?

A: When you apply for a scribe there are certain criteria that must be met for approval to be given.
The scribe rules appear on the Application for a Scribe screen.
The protocols for the use of a scribe can also be found in the ‘Handbook for principals’ (6.5, page 11-12) and a print friendly version can be found in the Documents and Forms page.

Q: Disability Applications across all test types?

A: An Application for Large Print, Braille and Electronic Test for a single test type will automatically flow on to all test types for that student.
An application for Computer use can be made for the Writing test only or all test types. This can be indicated by clicking on the appropriate radio button in the application for computer use dialog box.

A: Students with a disability, who use a computer regularly in the classroom as a disability adjustment, are able to access the electronic format of the tests.

Schools wishing to access Electronic Tests must be approved by the TAA (NESA).

  • Computer use for any test

From 2020, all applications for Disability Adjustments, where prior approval is required from NESA, are done electronically through the PAR website.

Q: What do we do with the parent withdrawal/exemption forms?

A: Signed Parent Withdrawal forms and Exemption forms should be retained at the school and may be required for future reference.
All absences, exemptions and withdrawals must be indicated in PAR.

Test Book Return

Q: We have confirmed the number of papers returned on PAR but need to make a change.The site appears to be locked. How do we make changes?

A: Please go to the Test Book Returns page and uncheck the boxes against the relevant year group. Return to the Student Test Participation page and make the required changes. Then revisit the Test Book Returns page and recheck the boxes.

A: Leftover materials need to be kept in secure storage until the test security period has ended. The materials may then be used as a school resource or destroyed. Under the NAPLAN protocols, NAPLAN test materials may not be distributed to students or members of the public.

Reports

Q: I didn’t receive one of my student’s reports what should I do?

A: Check the student was present for the NAPLAN tests. This can be done in step 4. Student Test Participation. If the student was present email naplan.nsw@nesa.nsw.edu.au. Please include the student’s first name, last name and SRN in the email.

Q: How do I query a student's report if it appears inconsistent with their ability?

A: Email naplan.nsw@nesa.nsw.edu.au. Please include the student’s first name, last name and SRN in the email, along with an explanation of the issue.

Q: I would like another copy of a student report how do I get one?

A: Copies of NAPLAN student reports can be printed from the SMART program. All Principals have access to SMART along with most executive teachers.
